We never imagined ourselves as a homeschooling family.
It wasn’t on a vision board or part of a long-term plan. But when the time came to make a decision for our twin boys, homeschooling became less of a wild idea—and more of a gentle invitation.
This is the story of why we said yes, what we’re learning, and what I would tell any mom who’s standing where I once was.
🌱 The Moment Everything Shifted
It started with questions.
Were our boys thriving in a traditional setting?
Were their unique personalities really being seen?
Was the rhythm of our life aligned with the values we hold most dear?
We realized we didn’t want busy. We didn’t want pressure. We didn’t want to trade connection for performance.
What we did want was time together. Margin for wonder. A slower pace. Faith woven into our days.
And homeschooling quietly answered all of that.
🧡 The Fears Were Real, Too
I was scared of messing it up.
Scared I wouldn’t be “enough.”
Scared that somehow, we’d all regret this choice.
But I’ve since learned that fear doesn’t mean it’s the wrong path—it just means it matters. And the more we lean into it, the more confident we feel (little by little).
✨ What We’re Learning Already
Here’s what I can say, even just a few months in:
- Connection comes first: The relationship I have with my boys has grown so much already.
- Every day is different: And that’s okay. Some days we follow the plan. Some days we follow our curiosity.
- Learning happens in ordinary moments: Cooking, nature walks, conversations in the car—these are learning, too.
- You don’t need to be a certified teacher: You just need to care deeply and stay curious with your child.
🕊️ If You’re Wondering If You Can Do This…
I want to gently say: You can.
You don’t have to know everything right now. You just have to be willing to grow alongside your child.
And honestly? That’s the most beautiful part of homeschooling I didn’t expect—how much I’m learning too.
📥 Come Along on the Journey
If you’re new to homeschool—or even just homeschool curious—you’re not alone. I’m building this blog to be a cozy corner for other moms starting fresh.
Warmly,
Amber
